Somewhere in time's own space
There must be some sweet pastured place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
Some paradise where horses go,
For by the love that guides my pen
I know great horses live again.
by Stanley Harrison, breeder, trainer, poet 1889-1980

Our condolences to Hannah Hewitt on the untimely passing of her magnificant partner, Johnny Cash. Although we all had only a short amount of time working with Johnny, he will forever live in all of our hearts. He was a kind and generous horse; he was a "gentle giant". In only one show together, Johnny helped Hannah achieve four of the six scores she needed for her USDF Bronze Medal, and they were the Junior/Young Rider High Point Champion of the show. We will all miss you "Johnny".

A new addition at Applewood Farm in Alpharetta, GA is International Grand Prix rider Lisette Milner and her stallions, Las Vegas (pictured) and Lorenzo's Fire. Lorenzo's Fire and Lisette have been quite successful in the International Grand Prix arena. A fabulous combination that will in turn be a huge asset to the Applewood family. Las Vegas is an up-and-coming 6 year old Danish breeding stallion. Although he is still green, he shows promise to be a future International competitor. Kim Schisler is riding both stallions while Lisette is getting moved into her new home. Kim is looking forward to the opportunity to compete Las Vegas next year. Welcome Lisette and her talented boys!

Courtney King Dye and Harmony's Mythilus represented the USA with grace and dignity in their Olympic Debut in Hong Kong. They finished top 25 in the Grand Prix, which allowed them to advance to the Grand Prix Special. Another brillant performance in the Grand Prix Special gave Courtney and Myth a top 15 finish so they advanced to the Grand Prix Kur Finals. Courtney and "Myth" present an overall incredible picture of harmony between horse and rider. America is lucky to have such a talented horse and rider combination. Congratulations Courtney!

Both Kim and Suzanne were thrilled with their rides and feel that training with Conrad is so beneficial to their overall riding. Thank you to Jennifer Baumert of Cloverlea Dressage for organizing the clinic and for the invitation to be a part of it!

After a wonderful 2008 Florida season, Kim Schisler has returned to Georgia. She will be based at Applewood Farm ( www.Applewood-Farm.com) in Alpharetta. Kim will be taking horses and students in for training. She will add a new element to her education in working with Suzanne Dansby Phelps ( www.dhfdressage.com). Suzanne has trained in dressage for over 20 years with some top Olympians including Jane Savoie, Robert Dover and Sue Blinks. Currently Suzanne trains with world renowned master, Conrad Schumacher. As a well accomplished international Grand Prix competitor, Suzanne has been long or short listed for the USET dressage team for the past seven years. In 2006, she was a US team alternate in Germany for the World Equestrian Games. In 2007 Suzanne finished in the top 6 at the USEF National Championships at Gladstone for the 3rd consecutive year. Suzanne is ranked among the top 10 US riders in the FEI World Rankings for the Dressage. Kim is looking forward to the opportunity to work with Suzanne!

Kim Schisler spent a beautiful Sunday afternoon teaching members of Woodbine Pony Club. A few of the members were preparing for the USPC Dressage Rally, which is held at the end of April. Each rider was sent home with a couple of tips that they can work on to improve the communication between horse and rider. Kim is a graduate A from Woodbine PC. She enjoys giving back to the club that she grew up in!

Claudius and Kim Schisler finish the Florida season with two solid Prix St. George tests at Equestrian Estates (White Fences). After missing out on two weeks of training in March due to Claudius being ill, Kim was unsure whether she would get to compete at Equestrian Estates. It was a last minute decision to compete, and Claudius rose to the challenge. With scores over 62% and a sixth place finish, Kim is pleased with Claudius' preformance in only his second competition at Prix St. George. Since changing Claudius' grain to Purina Ultium, Kim has noticed a tremendous improvement in Claudius' energy and attitude. A special thanks to Carlos Muniz of Purina Mills for his help with Claudius' nutritional needs!

April 2008
Jules Anderson is gifted with the ability to take difficult or what some people might consider "average" horses and show them what they are capable of achieving. She has taken many horses that most people would have given up on and made them into Grand Prix competitors. Jules has a gift not only with horses, but also with people. She has a unique ability to instill confidence in her students riding. Kim Schisler feels blessed to have had the opportunity to work with Jules. Kim knows that without Jules help she would not be where she is today. When Kim first came to Jules at the end of August 2007, Jules guided and supported her in some difficult decisions that she had to make regarding a horse that she owned, which she was unable to ship home from Germany. Jules helped Kim get the most out of a new partnership with Claudius, and she helped Kim and Sarastro move up to Prix St. George and Intermediare 1. Kim feels that the expression "she'd give you the shirt off her back" describes Jules best! Jules is a selfless individual that is constantly striving to help other people. We will all miss Jules, but we wish her the best of luck as she moves to Virginia where she will join her mother's Jilba Dressage with her own Teamwork Dressage.

February 2008
A highlight of the 2008 Florida season for Kim was riding in a Conrad Schumacher clinic organized by Jennifer Baumert. Mr. Schumacher trained young riders for USET from 1991-95, and, since 1997, he has trained European Championship, World Championship, and Olympic riders including Ellen Bontje and Sven and Gonnelien Rothenberger. At the 1996 Olympics, he coached Sven and Gonnelien to their silver medal team finish for the Netherlands, and Sven to his individual bronze medal. From 1979 to 1989 he trained the European Young Rider Championship first-place team and individual medal winners. He was the official trainer of the British team at the 1998 World Equestrian Games. In all, Schumacher's students have won over 40 international medals! He was the USDF Advanced Young Rider/ Junior Rider clinician for over 10 years and has multiple times led the USDF Trainers Conference.

Lauren Weil and Bigtime Graffiti win their first Recognized event at Beginner Novice at Poplar Place farm in January. They had to compete in a mild blizzard, but still finished on their dressage score of 29.00. They kept their title in Febuary at Pine Top farm where they finished dressage in first place with a 31.00. Unfortunately, they had a rail down in stadium, but so did most of their competitors, which allowed them to bring home the win after a perfect cross country round! Lauren and Graffiti have already qualified for the AEC's in Chicago and the area championships! Look for this talented pair competing at Tryon in March. We all look forward to watching this pair continue in their winning ways as they move up the levels. Currently, their sights are set for competing in their first Novice horse trials at Chattahochee Hills in April. Good Luck Lauren and Graffiti!
